Mr. Kim Seong-min
2009 Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award Laureate

Mr. Kim Seong-min, a North Korean defector and the founder of Free North Korea Radio, received the 2009 Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award at a ceremony in Taipei on December 10, 2009, International Human Rights Day. The award was presented to Mr. Kim in recognition of his courageous defiance of the North Korean regime and in support of his ongoing efforts to provide an independent source of news and information to the North Korean people.

A symposium on “Human Rights in North Korea and Prospects for Democracy” was held after the award ceremony, featuring the following speakers (clockwise from top left): Kim Seong-min, founder of Free North Korea Radio and 2009 ADHRA Laureate; Jaehoon Ahn, board member of the US Committee for Human Rights in North Korea and former director of Radio Free Asia’s Korean Service; Wen-cheng Lin, President of the TFD; and Li Tsai-fang, former ROC Representative to South Korea.
