2012 Meeting of the Governing Council of Community of Democracies
Invited by the Parliamentary Forum for Democracy, this year the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy delegation left for Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from July 7th to July 11th to attend the Governing Council Meeting of the Community of Democracies (CoD). The delegation consisted of Dr. Yu-Fang Lin, a member of the TFD Board of Trustees, and Dr. Cheng-Hao Pao, director of the TFD International Cooperation Department
Apart from the discussion of CoD’s annual works and budget, this meeting also elected El Salvador as the next presidency. It is worth mentioning that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and the President of Mongolia both gave speeches at the closing ceremony. Secretary Clinton praised Taiwan’s democracy and regarded it as model for other countries. After the meeting, Dr. Yu-Fang Lin and Dr. Cheng-Hao Pao were officially invited by the President to attend the state banquet, the dress parade, and the opening ceremony of Naadam. Dr. Lin was invited as the Chairman of National Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Legislative Yuan, while Dr. Pao was invited as the representative of TFD.
The TFD delegation received the Mongolian government’s warmest welcomes and felt greatly honoured. Hopefully, this marks the beginning of many more cooperative opportunities to come.
