Review Process
Each year, after an open call for nominations, the Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award recipient is chosen by a rigorous review process over several months. The review is carried out in two stages to ensure a strict and fair assessment of all nominees. A preliminary review panel comprised of domestic scholars and experts draws up a shortlist of five candidates, which is then assessed by an international review panel of distinguished persons.
Humaira Rasuliwas named the Award winner by a two-stage reviewing process. The TFD convened a preliminary review panel meeting facilitated by TFD President Huang Yu-lin to discuss and shortlist the finalists. The finalists’ names and credentials were then sent to the final review panel for a final decision. This year’s nominees included individuals and organizations from Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Mongolia and India that have made respective contributions in the fields pertaining women’s rights, civil and political rights, civil participation for the youth and combating cast discrimination.
