Visit of 2018 Young Politician Delegation

U.S. Young Politician Delegation paid a visit to the TFD on December 17, 2018 and was received by Dr. Yeh-Chung, Lu, Vice President of TFD and Dr. Allen Peng, Director of Research and Development Department. After VP Lu’s introduction on the vision and working programs of TFD, both sides engaged in a conversation about TFD’s efforts in pushing for young leader capacity- building programs, promoting Taiwan’s public diplomacy through extensive international networking, and the influence of China’s sharp power on Taiwan’s domestic politics. They enjoyed the fruitful discussion.
TFD attends Conference on East Asia Geopolitics and Security in Brussel, Belgium

TFD vice president Jiann-Fa YAN was invited to speak at Conference on East Asia Geopolitics and Security on December 17th in Brussel, Belgium held by the European Institute for Asian Studies. Youth China Watchers, a civil club in Brussel, also takes this opportunity to invite VP YAN to speak on Seminar on How 2018 Taiwan Midterm Election affects Taiwan’s Foreign Policies and Cross-Relation.

Seminar by Mr. Patrick Connolly, Democracy and Human Rights Service Fellow of TFD

The TFD hosted a seminar for Mr. Patrick Connolly, the TFD’s Democracy and Human Rights Service Fellow, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am on December 14, 2018 at the foundation. Mr. Patrick Connolly delivered a presentation entitled ‘Mapping the Taiwanese g0v Movement: A Canadian Civic Tech Perspective.’ Dr. Allen Peng, Director of TFD’s Research & Development Department, was invited to moderate the seminar while Ms. Hsiao-wei Chiu, g0v Community, was invited as the discussant.
Visit of the Thai Think Tank

Dr. Kavi Chongkittavorn, senior fellow of the Institute of Security and International Studies, Chulalongkorn University paid a visit to the TFD at December 12, 2018 and was received by Dr. Eric Yu, the director of the Department of Domestic Affairs of the TFD. After Dr. Yu’s introduction on the vision and working programs of TFD. Both sides engaged in a conversation about TFD’s effort on pushing for young leaders capacity- building programs, China, preventing democracy backsliding and the future collaboration between two sides. They enjoyed the fruitful discussion.
World Affairs Councils of America delegation visited the TFD.

A delegation of leaders of World Affairs Councils of America, led by Mr. James N. Falk, President and Chief Executive Officer of the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth, paid a visit to the TFD on December 12, 2018. Received by Director of International Cooperation Bo Tedards, the delegation discussed the work of the TFD and Taiwan’s democratic development and shared experiences of social movements.
TFD President Liao spoke at press conference “Thumbs up for the 70th Anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights ”

On December 5th 2018, The TFD President Liao spoke at press conference on the release of “Thumbs up for the 70th Anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights series activities”, co-hosted by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy and National Human Rights Museum, highlighting the importance and development of Universal Declaration of Human Rights(the UDHR) and following core international human rights treaties.
A group of journalists from Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia visits the TFD.

A group of journalists from Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia visited the TFD and had a lively exchange with TFD Vice President Ketty W. Chen on the result of the referendum on same-sex marriage that took place on November 24, TFD’s exchanges with Southeast Asian countries, Taiwanese young people’s attitude toward democracy, and China’s mounting influence.

The National Committee on American Foreign Policy delegation visited the TFD and had a lively exchange with TFD Vice President Ketty W. Chen on TFD’s programs and collaboration in the region and the possible effect of disinformation and China’s influence in the elections just held last week.
Visit of the Korea Democracy Foundation

A delegation from Korea Democracy Foundation led by Executive Director Nam Kyu-Sun (second from left) and Archives Director Hong Gye-sin paid a visit to the TFD on November 29, 2018. They were received by Director of International Cooperation Bo Tedards, and discussed the TFD’s structure and functions, as well as Taiwan’s experience of preserving important memorial sites.
Announcement of the Recipient of the 2018 Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award

The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) held a press conference at the briefing room in Legislative Yuan. TFD Chairman Su Jia-chyuan announced the 2018 Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award (ADHRA) will be awarded to Gusdurian Network Indonesia (GNI). The GNI, a non-governmental organization dedicated to peace, pluralism, and fundamental human rights and values, is named after late Indonesian President KH Abdurahman Wahid, who was also known colloquially in Indonesia as Gus Dur and had worked to promote interfaith dialogue, multiculturalism, the consolidation of civil society, tolerance, democracy, and human rights.
