Visit of The Association for Women's Rights in Development

The Association for Women's Rights in Development( AWID) visited the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) on February 13th, and was received by International Cooperation Director Bo Tedards. During the meeting, Director Bo Tedards briefed the AWID delegation how TFD has been facilitating regional democracy and human rights and how Taiwan’s civil society has been striving to advocate for women’s rights. The two sides had an inspiring discussion on promoting global gender equality.
Visit of Los Angeles Mayor’s Young Ambassadors

“Post-Election Outlook for Taiwan and Beyond: Stability or Uncertainty?” Workshop

The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) on Jan. 12 co-hosted the “Post-Election Outlook for Taiwan and Beyond: Stability or Uncertainty?” workshop with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Foreign Policy Research Institute, and the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (Fulbright Taiwan). The event invited eight academics and experts from Taiwan and the U.S. to share their analysis on the Taiwan’s 2020 presidential and legislative election results, and the implications of the results for cross-Strait relations and regional security. TFD Vice President Ketty W. Chen and Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Robert Spalding moderated the workshop.
The Asia Young Leaders for Democracy Program (AYLD)

What is the AYLD? In 2014, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) established the Asia Young Leaders for Democracy program (AYLD), aiming at strengthening democracy in Asia through young people’s collaborations. Each year, young practitioners advocating for democracy or human rights across the countries in Asia are selected to participate in the AYLD which empowers them through lectures, discussions, and site visits. More importantly, the AYLD builds up a network of young people in Asia to encourage cooperation for consolidating democracy and human rights.

The Delegation of Hungarian Scholars paid a visit to the TFD on 20th December, 2019, and was received by Vice President Yeh-Chung Lu and Dr. Allen Peng, Director of Research and Development Department. After the introduction on the vision and working programs of TFD, both sides discussed the Cross-strait relations, the regional rise of populism, and the multiple challenges facing Democracies around the world. They enjoyed the fruitful discussion.
Visit of Dr. and Mrs. Thitinan Pongsudhirak

Dr. Thitinan Pongsudhirak, Director of the Institute of Security and International Studies, Chulalongkorn University, and his wife Dr. Pavida Pananond paid a visit to the TFD on December 18, 2019. Received by Director of International Cooperation Bo Tedards, they discussed the work of the TFD, Taiwan's experience of democratization, and the state of democracy in Southeast Asia in hope of potential future collaboration.
Nominations for the 14th Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award Open!

The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) is calling for nominations for the 14th Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award (ADHRA)! What is the ADHRA? There was no award recognizing efforts in developing or sustaining democracy and human rights in Asia until 2006. As the first national democracy assistance foundation in Asia, the TFD established the ADHRA — the first democracy and human rights award in Asia — to support courageous individuals and groups who build democracy, stand up for justice, and defend human rights. The ADHRA is annually awarded to one individual or organization that has made significant contributions to the advancement of democracy or human rights in Asia through peaceful means.
