Visit of the 2019 Boise State University Taiwan Summer Programs Delegation

A delegation from the 2019 Boise State University Taiwan Summer Programs paid a visit to the TFD on June 25, 2019. Received by Director of International Cooperation Bo Tedards, they discussed the TFD’s programs, the impact of China on Taiwan’s democracy, and related issues.
Visit of the 2019 MOSAIC Taiwan Delegation

US and Canadian participants of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ 2019 MOSAIC Taiwan Fellowship Program led by Amb. Michel Ching-long Lu paid a visit to the TFD on June 19. The delegation was received by Bo Tedards, Director of International Cooperation, who introduced the vision and working programs of the TFD. Afterwards, the fellows engaged in a conversation about the TFD’s operations, as well as Taiwan’s role in regional democratic development.

Mr. José Luis Barceló, Founder of El Mundo Financiero from Spain, paid a visit to the TFD on June 14, 2019. Received by TFD President Liao Fu-Te and invited NGO representatives, they discussed the TFD’s programs, the impact of China on Taiwan’s democracy, and future collaboration.

TFD held a China Human Rights Report symposium at National Chung Hsing University

The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) hosted a China Human Rights Report symposium, 14:10-15:50 on 10th June, 2019 at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU). Vice-President Yeh-Chung Lu gave a remark on the behalf of TFD. The Symposium was moderated by Distinguished Professor Tung-Chieh Tsai, Dean of College of Law and Politics of NCHU. Dr. Li-wen Tun, Professor of Department of Public Security of Central Police University, and Dr. Yu-jie Chen, Post-Doctoral Researcher of Institutum Iurisprudentiae of Academia Sinica, were invited to share their research about Human Rights issues in China. Dr. San-Yi Yang, Professor of Graduate Institute of International Politics of NCHU, was invited as a discussant for the symposium.

For strengthen the relationship with human rights NGOs, Institutes and academics in Switzerland. Taiwan Foundation for Democracy visited relevant organizations and persons to gain knowledge on the concerned issues and advocacy strategies of international human rights NGOs, the mechanism of Swiss government, as well as the development of Taiwan studies and human rights studies in Switzerland, and to discuss possibility for future cooperation with TFD.

In 2014, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) established the Asia Young Leaders for Democracy program (AYLD), aiming at strengthening democracy in Asia through young people’s collaborations. Each year, young practitioners advocating for democracy or human rights across the countries in Asia are selected to participate in the AYLD which empowers them through lectures, discussions, and site visits. Over the past 5 years, the AYLD has empowered nearly 100 young leaders with experience and knowledge from international NGOs or the academic field, and has built up a network of young people in Asia to encourage cooperation for consolidating democracy and human rights.
