TFD President Ford Fu-Te Liao Participated in North American Taiwan Studies Association 2019 Annual Conference

TFD President Ford Fu-Te Liao was invited to participate in North American Taiwan Studies Association (NATSA) 2019 Annual Conference from May 16th to May 18th, and to give opening remarks at the conference. President Liao also moderated the “Public Policy from the Margin: Expenditure, Participation, and Responsiveness” session of the conference. Moreover, President Liao also discussed the cooperation of two sides with principle people of NATSA.
Visit of SAMATA Foundation Executive Chairperson Pradip Pariyar

Mr. Pradip Pariyar, Executive Chairperson of the SAMATA Foundation from Nepal, paid a visit to the TFD on May 9, 2019. Received by Director of International Cooperation Bo Tedards, we discussed the work of the TFD and Taiwan's experience of democratization and the SAMATA Foundation’s work on advocacy for Dalits’ human rights in Nepal.
TFD visited important NGOs in Lithuania

For strengthen the relationship with NGOs of Baltic States, Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, which led by President Fort Liao, organized a 5-person delegation to visit NGOs in Lithuania on May 3rd and 4th. In addition to President Liao, the other delegates are Dr. Jiann-Fa, Yang, the Vice President of TFD, Dr. Wan-Ying Yang, the Professor of National Chengchi University, Dr. Yi-Hung Weng, the Assistant Professor, Shih Hsin University and Dr. Allen Peng, Director of Research and Development Department of TFD.
TFD attended conference in Lithuania

Taiwan Foundation for Democracy cooperated with Institute of Democratic Politics, Wilfried Marten Centre for European Studies and Institute of International Relations and Political Science to hold an international conference in Vilnius on May 2nd. TFD organized a delegation to attend this conference. TFD delegation, which led by President Fort Liao, organized a 5-person delegation to visit Lithuania. In addition to President Liao, the other delegates are Dr. Jiann-Fa, Yang, the Vice President of TFD, Dr. Wan-Ying Yang, the Professor of National Chengchi University, Dr. Yi-Hung Weng, the Assistant Professor, Shih Hsin University and Dr. Allen Peng, Director of Research and Development Department of TFD.

TFD held a China Human Rights Report symposium at I-Shou University

The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) hosted a China Human Rights Report symposium, at I-Shou University at 14:30 to 16:10 on 24 April, 2019. The Symposium was moderated by Dr. Allen Peng, Director of Research & Development Department of TFD. Dr. Chia-chou Wang, Professor of Department of Public Policy and Management at I-Shou University, and Dr. Hung-yuan Chang, Associate Professor of Department of International Trade of Chihlee University of Technology, were invited to present their research about Human Rights issues in China. Dr. Yu-chen Lan, Associate Professor of Department of Public Policy and Management at I-Shou University, was invited as a discussant for the symposium.
TFD Vice President Ketty W. Chen Participated in 2019 Civil 20 Summit

TFD Vice President Ketty W. Chen was invited to participate in 2019 Civil 20 Summit in Tokyo from April 21st to April 22nd, and to be one of the speakers for the Inclusive Democracies: Gender, Sexuality and Equal Participation session of the C20. During the session, Vice President Chen shared how Taiwan’s civil society has been striving to curb discrimination against different genders and sexualities, and to advocate for inclusive gender equality polices.
The Delegation of Parlamentaria de la República Argentina visited the TFD

The delegation of Parlamentaria de la República Argentina paid a visit to the TFD on April 18, 2019. Received by TFD President Liao Fu-Te and Director of Research and Development Department Dr. Allen Peng. Both sides discussed on TFD’s programs, the impact of the fake news disinformation on Taiwan’s 2019 election and democratic development.
Social leaders from Southeast Asia visits the TFD

Social leaders participating in the Asian Dialogues: Transformative Leadership in Action organized by the Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation, visited the TFD and had a lively exchange with TFD Vice Presidents Ketty W. Chen and Director Bo Tedards on TFD’s programs and exchanges with Southeast Asian countries, Taiwan’s democracy, media environment, and the prevalence of disinformation.
Attends 16th Annual Conference of European Association of Taiwan Studies in Nottingham

For strengthen the cooperation between TFD and European academic groups, TFD 6-person delegation attended the 16th Conference of European Association of Taiwan Studies at Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham, United Kingdom from April 10th to 12th. TFD delegation led by Dr. Liao, the President, Dr. Allen Peng who is the Director of Research and Development Department of TFD and four scholars including Dr. Eric Yu, the Associate Professor of National Chengchi University, Dr. Dali Yang, the Professor of University of Chicago, Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Pro Vince Chancellor of Jain University, and William Case, Professor of University of Nottingham Malaysia. President Liao gave remarks at opening ceremony, and hosted a special panel organized by the foundation entitled “Is There Authoritarian Allure in Democratic Asia?” This conference comprised over 50 scholars from Europe, Taiwan, and elsewhere, with 15 panels. Amb. Y. L. Lin, the Taipei Representative Office in the United Kingdom, hosted a welcome dinner to conference participants. President Liao also visited Taiwan Studies Program at the University of Nottingham, and discussed the cooperation of academic project with Dr. Chun-Yi Lee, the Director of TSP.
Seminar by Dr. Yoshida, Tomofumi Dissertation Fellow of TFD at National Chengchi University

The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy and National Chengchi University College of Social Sciences co-hosted a seminar for Mr. Yoshida, Tomofumi, the Dissertation Fellow, 14-16 on 29 March, 2019 at the National Chengchi University. Mr. Yoshida delivered a presentation entitled” An Analysis on the Relations between Businesses and Government under the Chen Administration: Policy Demands and Responses” and was moderated by Dr. Chao Chi Lin, Associate Professor of Department of Political Science of NCCU. Dr. Chen-Dong Tso, Professor of Department of Political Science of NTU, was invited as the seminar's discussant.
