Visit of the Center for American Progress

The delegation of Center for American Progress (CAP), led by Mr. Thomas A. Daschle, former Senator and the Chair of CAP, paid a visit to the TFD on 14th October, 2019 and was received by Vice President Yeh-Chung Lu. Both sides engaged in a fruitful conversation on the work of the TFD, Cross-strait relations, the Hong Kong issues, and exchanged opinions on the global democratic recession. They looked forward to the further cooperation in the future.
TFD Vice President Ketty W. Chen attended the Forum 2000 Conference in Prague

The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy participated in the Forum 2000 Conference, the theme of which was “Recovering the Promise of 1989” this year, held in Prague on October 13-15. TFD Vice President Ketty W. Chen served as moderator and speaker for panels "Asian Middle Powers and Democracy Promotion", "Strategic Cooperation among Democracy Defenders" and "Chinese Superpower and the Crushed Hopes of Tiananmen 1989." The TFD is also a member of the Coalition for Democratic Renewal and coordinator of the Working Group on the Global Influence of China and its Impact on Democracy.
Visit of the Lord Alton of Liverpool

The Lord Alton of Liverpool, Co-Founder and Chief Executive of Arise Foundation Luke de Pulford, Knight of Malta, Hon. Anton’ de Piro, paid a visit to the TFD on October 4, 2019. Received by TFD Director of International Cooperation Bo Tedards. Both sides discussed and exchanged ideas regarding the issues of human rights and Hong Kong situations.
TFD held a China Human Rights Report symposium at National Quemoy University

The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) hosted a China Human Rights Report symposium, 14:10-15:50 on 4th October, 2019 at National Quemoy University (NQU). The Symposium was moderated by TFD President Fu-te Liao, Dr. Yu-Jung Lee, Associate Professor of Department of Public Policy and Management of Shih Hsin University, and Dr. Hsing-chung Wang, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Department of Political Science of Soochow University, were invited to share their research about Human Rights issues in China. Dr. Hui-Ching Chen, Associate Professor of Department of International and Mainland China Affairs of NQU, was invited as a discussant for the symposium. After the symposium, President Liao and the research team had a meeting with Dr. Chien-Min Chen, President of NQU.
Seminar by Ms. Naoko Sunai, Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellow of TFD

The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy hosted a seminar for D Ms. Naoko Sunai, Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellow on 25 September, 2019. Ms. Sunai delivered a presentation entitled “The Illegalization of Vietnamese Migrant Workers in Japan and Taiwan: The Resistance and Exploitation in Migration Infrastructure” and was moderated by Lecturer Yu-ling Ku at the Center for General Education, Taipei National University of the Arts. Dr. Yu-shan Chang, Researcher at Legal Aid Foundation, was invited as the seminar's discussant.

From September 23th-27th, TFD president Fu-te Liao and Director of International Cooperation Bo Tedards attended the International Steering Committee Meeting of the Community of Democracies (CD) and were invited to observe the Governing Council Meeting of the CD.
The 2019 Global Cooperation Training Framework on“Defending Democracy Through Media Literacy II” Opening Ceremony

The 2019 Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) on “Defending Democracy Through Media Literacy II” International Workshop opened today (9/10). The event is co-hosted by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the National Democratic Institute (NDI), the International Republican Institute (IRI), the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, and the Swedish Trade and Investment Council in Taipei.
Visit of Lithuanian and Latvian Joint Parliamentary Delegation

Lithuanian and Latvian Joint Parliamentary Delegation paid a visit to the TFD on August 27, 2019. Received by President Ford Fu-Te Liao and Dr. Allen Peng, Director of Research and Development Department. At first, President Liao introduced TFD’s background, major task and objectives. Both sides engaged in a fruitful conversation about the Honk Kong issue and the current state of Taiwan’s democracy, they look forward to the future cooperation.
2019 Asia Young Leaders for Democracy (AYLD) program closes in Taipei

The 2019 Asia Young Leaders for Democracy (AYLD), an annual program organized by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, closed yesterday in Taipei. The program this year brought together young democracy and human rights practitioners from over 10 countries in Asia to engage with local NGOs and experts throughout the course of six days.

The 2019 Asia Young Leaders for Democracy (AYLD), an annual program organized by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy for young democracy practitioners advocating for democracy and human rights across Asia to gather together and exchange ideas and experiences in Taipei, commenced today. This year’s participants hailed from more than 10 different countries, including Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand, representing a variety of cultural, religious and political backgrounds.
