Visit of the Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East GermanyPrint
Date: 2018-01-19
The Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany visited the Taiwan Foundation of Democracy on Jan. 19. TFD Vice President Ketty W. Chen welcomed the three-member delegation led by Mr. Rainer Eppelmann, chairman of the Federal Foundation. The other two members included Deputy Director Dr. Robert Grünbaum, who researches peaceful power transitions, and Dr. Sabine Kuder, head of exhibitions and international relations at the Federal Foundation.
The Federal Foundation was established by Germany’s Federal Parliament in 1998. Chairman Eppelmann firmly pursuits democracy and freedom, and is devoted to promoting transitional justice in Germany, saying that remembrance is a duty. To avoid history repeating itself, the Federal Foundation focuses on research and preservation of the past, and aims to strengthen public awareness of democratic values.
The two Foundations exchanged views on current directions and goals, and also shared democratic transition experiences of the two respective countries.
