TFD attended conference in LithuaniaPrint

Taiwan Foundation for Democracy cooperated with Institute of Democratic Politics, Wilfried Marten Centre for European Studies and Institute of International Relations and Political Science to hold an international conference in Vilnius on May 2nd. TFD organized a delegation to attend this conference. TFD delegation, which led by President Fort Liao, organized a 5-person delegation to visit Lithuania. In addition to President Liao, the other delegates are Dr. Jiann-Fa, Yang, the Vice President of TFD, Dr. Wan-Ying Yang, the Professor of National Chengchi University, Dr. Yi-Hung Weng, the Assistant Professor, Shih Hsin University and Dr. Allen Peng, Director of Research and Development Department of TFD.
The title of this conference is “Crisis of Democracy: Experience in the Baltic States, Europe and Taiwan. Prospect for the Future”, and three panels focused on three issues: Living next to the Big Neighbour, the Challenge of Populism, and Disinformation and Misuse of Technology.
Amb. Andy Chin, the Representative of Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia, gave an opening remark. He emphasized the determination of Baltic States’ people to pursue the independence from Soviet Union through the Chain of Freedom in thirty years ago. In addition to admire the perseverance of Lithuania to seek the independence and democracy by peaceful way, President Liao also highlighted the platform function of this conference because both Lithuania and Taiwan which are the role model of new democracies are facing the threat of big neighbors, Russia and China. MP Gintaras Steponavicius and Mantas Adomenas, who are President and Vice President of Lithuanian Seimas’s Taiwan-Lithuania Friendship Group, expressed their welcome and wish the success of conference. Senior MP Emanuelis Zingeris, member of Committee on Foreign Affairs, also invited to present at the conference.
